Edmonds – Backyard chickens?

Susan Bauer writes:

I am collecting names of those who are interested in asking the city to change its regulations prohibiting the keeping of backyard poultry. Seattle Tilth is helping me informally by passing my name & email address to all “Edmonds inquiries” but wish you will post my info on your site as an organizer in this cause.

Most people ask me “why chickens?” and I have to answer “why backyard tomatoes?”. Chickens are clean and quiet (no roosters, please). Even the more populous city of Seattle re-introduced the keeping of poultry back in 1982 – - a long, long time ago. So what gives with Edmonds?
